Energy Reduction

62% reduction (Ford Building common area energy)

At Goodman’s Highbrook Business Park in Auckland, several commercial office buildings have achieved 5-6 Star NABERSNZ ratings, reflecting strong performance in energy efficiency and building operations.

These outcomes are supported by a range of sustainability initiatives including solar generation, building management systems, and detailed energy monitoring across key services such as HVAC, lighting, and general power.

As part of this programme, Quasar Systems contributed energy monitoring capability using Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) supporting Goodman’s Goodman Energy Management (GEM) platform.

Key Sustainability Initiatives at Ford - Highbrook

Solar
generation

A 63 kWp rooftop solar array was installed at the Ford Building, generating over 115 MWh and reducing reliance on grid electricity.

Energy
sub-metering

An advanced metering system with 43 electrical meters tracks energy consumption across HVAC, lighting and general power.

Energy management platform

Goodman Energy Management (GEM) integrates building
data to provide energy
insights and operational
visibility.

Energy
Analytics

Monitoring and analysis tools provide actionable insights to identify inefficiencies and improve building performance.

Remote
monitoing

Centralised dashboards allow building operators to monitor and optimise HVAC systems and building services.

EV charging infrastructure

Electric vehicle charging
stations support tenants transitioning to electric
transport.

Ford Building – A High Performance Example

62% Reduction in Energy Usage

The Ford Building demonstrates the impact of the Highbrook sustainability programme. Following solar installation and energy optimisation initiatives, common area electricity consumption was reduced by 124,016 kWh between 2022 and 2024, equivalent to powering approximately 17 Kiwi homes for a year.

Supporting Energy Monitoring Infrastructure

Quasar Systems provided energy monitoring capability using Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) across several Highbrook buildings.

This monitoring capability supports Goodman’s Goodman Energy Management (GEM) platform, which integrates building systems, sub-metering and operational data to provide visibility of energy performance across the portfolio.

The system enables:

  • detailed electrical sub-metering
  • real-time monitoring of energy use
  • performance reporting and analysis
  • data to support energy optimisation initiatives
