Schneider Electric PME

Palmerston North Hospital is a major healthcare facility serving a population of more than 500,000 people. With a 24/7 operation and extensive mechanical infrastructure, energy management is a critical part of maintaining reliable and efficient hospital services.

MidCentral DHB sought better visibility of its energy consumption to improve billing accuracy, identify inefficiencies, and support a broader energy management strategy across the site.

To achieve this, the hospital partnered with Quasar to implement Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) platform.

The Challenge

____________________
Large hospitals operate complex infrastructure including chillers, boilers, UPS systems and specialised medical equipment.

Key challenges:
  • Limited visibility of energy usage across hospital systems
  • Complex billing across multiple utilities and contractors
  • Difficulty identifying abnormal equipment operation
  • Growing need for energy and carbon management

The Solution

____________________
Quasar implemented EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) to provide real-time monitoring and visualisation of energy consumption across the hospital.

Capabilities included
  • Real-time monitoring of electrical consumption
  • Custom dashboards and visualisation tools
  • Monitoring of boilers, chillers and UPS systems
  • Reporting and analytics for energy management

Technology Used

EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME) provides detailed insight into electrical systems, enabling organisations to analyse power usage, identify inefficiencies and improve operational performance. Quasar Control Energy Management Platform

The platform allows facility managers to:
  • Monitor power usage across multiple systems
  • Track energy consumption trends
  • Identify abnormal loads and equipment behaviour
  • Generate customised reports and dashboards

The system integrates with the hospital’s existing electrical infrastructure and provides operational teams with intuitive dashboards and reporting tools.

Measured Outcomes

$10,000 Annual savings from steak system improvement
Clear insight into site-wide energy consumption
Identified abnormal chiller pump control
Engineering teams able to quickly spot inefficiencies
"The visual element is very important; it allows you to see things you can’t see just with numbers"
