What is Disturbance Direction Detection?
To determine the root cause of a disturbance, a consultant or experienced engineer might be required to analyse and interpret data captured by a PQ meter. But, it could be a slow (and expensive) process to acquire the relevant information and come to the correct solution. It’s easier (and less expensive) to troubleshoot a power quality problem when it occurs, rather than days or weeks later.
This is where Disturbance Direction Detection (DDD) comes in. |

DDD uses comprehensive algorithms to analyse wave shape and disturbance alarm data.
It gives the user feedback on;
It gives the user feedback on;
- The location of a disturbance with respect to the meter location (whether upstream or downstream)
- A confidence rating
Benefits of DDD
DDD is useful in pinpointing the source of the disturbance, and ultimately solving the problem.
The benefits of DDD include:
The benefits of DDD include:
- determining the source of power quality events more accurately
- minimizing repetitive events by quickly locating disturbance sources
- increasing production uptime by improving facility PQ levels
X Marks the Spot
In this example, DDD determines that the disturbance was Downstream of Meter A, Downstream of Meter B, Upstream of Meter C, Upstream of Meter D, and Upstream of Meter E
